Homeopathy is a branch of alternative medicine
based on the use of highly diluted substances that practitioners claim
can cause the body to heal itself. It claims to treat the symptoms of a
wide range of illnesses including allergies, asthma, eczema, hay fever,
headaches, stress and respiratory infections. The cornerstone of
homeopathic treatment is based on the Law Of Similar’s. It’s aim is to
treat the whole person, taking into account personality, lifestyle and
hereditary factors as well as the history of the disease.
Homeopathic remedies take an ingredient from a plant, animal or mineral
and dilute it repeatedly with water. The theory is that water retains
the memory of the original ingredient. Practitioners say the more
dilutions there are, the stronger the remedy.
Critics say homeopathic treatments do nothing, putting people in danger
as the delay getting conventional medical treatments. Supporters counter
that it works on everything from headaches to cancer, even if they
can’t explain why.
Homeopathy is not the replacement for conventional treatment of serious
diseases and infections, but aims to help alleviate the symptoms of wide
range of acute and chronic illnesses.
Homeopathic medicines can be in the form of liquid, granules, powder or
tablets. Sometimes symptoms may temporary get worse before they get
better. This aggravation of symptoms can be a part of the homeopathic
treatment. However, you should tell your homeopath if you have these
reactions.
